We are not sure how our last name Fellars came to be spelled with an ‘a’, but we do believe the origin of our name comes stems from our ancestors having the occupation of lumberjack, or felling trees. This makes sense because my dad sure could saw a log.
One night I was up late reading a book when a man knocked on our back door. The man was hiking and got lost, saw our light, stumbled across the ravine and ended up on our back porch. He was dehydrated and disoriented and rather scary at 1:30 in the morning. After figuring out the strangers story, I called his family to come pick him up. While waiting, the man asked if the dog would bite him. I thought to myself our dog is locked up and not barking, what is he afraid of? And then I heard a growl. I listened again to the growling and realized where it was coming from, through the wall to the upstairs bedroom, where my dad was sawing a log. After teasing my dad about his snoring He joked back “I’m guarding the house even in my sleep”.
I’m thankful snoring isn’t something I got from my dad, but I did get a
few things from him, like my ability to use up al the hot water in one shower,
the ability to sleep in no matter what, as well as my name. In Heleman
chapter 5 verse 6 it reads: Behold, I have given unto you the names of our first
parents … and this I have done that when you remember your names ye may remember
them; and when ye remember them ye may remember their works; and when ye
remember their works ye may know how that it is said, and also written, that
they were good. I am truly honored to bear my fathers name and I am
thankful for his great example on how to be a priesthood holder, husband, and
father.
